Farm Frites joins sustainability initiative of deep sea shippers

Farm Frites International is the first producer of potato products to join the BICEPS network of deep sea shippers. An initiative originated by five large multinationals (AB InBev, AkzoNobel, DSM, FrieslandCampina, Huntsman) joining forces to make a significant contribution to a more sustainable global deep sea shipping industry.
By the name BICEPS (Boosting Initiatives for Collaborative Emission reduction with the Power Shippers) the network partners develop a common and clear approach to sustainability in their procurement of ocean freight and selection of global deep sea carriers. A first and tangible step is the introduction of the BICEPS rating system. This has been developed to create more transparency in the sustainability performance of the different shipping lines. It allows shippers to include sustainability performance as a clear differentiator within their selection- and procurement process of shipping lines.
Ongoing attention for sustainability
The participation of Farm Frites International is fully consistent with the company’s vision: ‘Growing together, from potatoes to happy faces’. Continuous attention for creating a more sustainable business and actively contributing to a better environment are considered key elements. About joining the Network, COO Johan van der Zande says: “We aim to actively contribute to a dialogue with colleague shippers to combine, share and above all apply existing and new knowledge in order to achieve a sustainable supply chain and logistics operation.”
Independent logistics control tower
Farm Frites International exports yearly more than 5.000 container shipments. The complete organisation and coordination of these shipments is outsourced to Kien Logistics Management, an independent logistics control tower and responsible for all outbound logistics activities of Farm Frites International.
